Reflections for Coaches & Those Drawn to a Coach Approach for Self Awareness and Insight

A quiet space for inquiry, reflection, and thoughtful conversation about coaching, nervous-system awareness, ethics, and the lived experience of becoming — and remaining — human.

This page is written for coaches, coaches-in-training, and those drawn to a coaching

based approach to personal growth — people who value presence, curiosity, and steady, ethical practice over quick fixes or performance.

Here, you’ll find What If Wednesday™ reflections — invitations to slow down, question assumptions, and stay connected to what matters beneath technique, productivity, or pressure.

What If Wednesday™

What If Wednesday™ is a weekly reflection exploring coaching, nervous-system awareness, ethics, and the inner life of this work.

These writings are an invitation to slow down, question assumptions, and stay connected to what matters beneath technique, performance, or productivity.

Learning, Lineage, and Practice

Over the past two decades, I’ve supported individuals at many stages of their coaching journey — including learners and alumni from Erickson Coaching International and Moving the Human Spirit.

My role has often been less about instruction and more about orientation — helping people slow down, reflect, and practice from a place of steadiness, ethics, and self-trust.

This work continues to shape how I write, reflect, and engage with the coaching profession.

A Gentle Note on Mentoring

From time to time, I offer limited mentoring conversations for coaches who are preparing for certification, integrating trauma-informed practice, or seeking steadiness and perspective in their work.

Availability varies, and mentoring is offered intentionally and selectively — shaped by capacity rather than demand.

If you’re curious, you’re welcome to reach out and we can explore whether it’s a fit.

Welcome to What If Wednesdays

What If We Held Our Own Hearts as Tenderly as We Hold Those We Love?

“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response.”
— Viktor Frankl

Each Wednesday, I’ll share a short reflection built around a single,

powerful question

What if…?

The What if question is one of the

simplest yet most transformative tools

in coaching.

It opens curiosity, invites hope, and expands possibility — especially when someone feels stuck in patterns of overwhelm, fear, or emotional reactivity.

When I find myself caught in those same moments, I often turn back to this question. Sometimes I even place “What If” notes around my house — on mirrors, doors, or my laptop — as gentle reminders to pause and shift perspective.

It’s a small practice with a big impact: helping me regulate, reflect, and reconnect to possibility.

In coaching, when a client’s nervous system is activated, the stress response can limit access to the prefrontal cortex — where reasoning, creativity, and insight live. A simple, compassionate

What if question, paired with co-regulation and calm presence, can create just enough space for awareness and change to emerge.

What If We Held Our Own Hearts as Tenderly as We Hold Those We Love?

The Greatest Gift on the Eve of Giving

“To love yourself is to understand you are a source of light.”

Yogi Bhajan

  • How does self-love affect the nervous system and emotional regulation?
  • Why are helpers and coaches often harder on themselves than others?
  • How does self-compassion support co-regulation and connection?
  • What is the mind–body–brain connection in trauma-informed coaching?
  • Why is self-love essential for ethical, sustainable coaching practice?

Reflection

I’ve been noticing a pattern in my work with others — many of us who have experienced trauma and challenge are also holding space for others whose nervous systems have been shaped by trauma. What I keep seeing is how easily we offer compassion outward, while being way harder on ourselves.

This season, I’d like to offer an invitation:

to hold yourself as tenderly and with as much grace as you give to your clients and loved ones.

What if we could give ourselves the gift of holding our own hearts with the same care?

Why This Matters

Self-love and self-compassion make our giving, loving, healing, and serving more sustainable and more authentic.

When we offer this inwardly,

we create a physiological blueprint for others...

our self-love becomes part of how we

co-regulate while in

connection with others.

At the heart of this is something simple and profound:

What if the greatest gift we offer others begins with the gift of love we offer ourselves?
